ALWAYS ORIGINAL - SONGS THAT MATTER - LYRICS THAT SPEAK - MELODY GETS ROOM TO BREATHE
There are musicians who play the blues, and then there are those who write, shape, twist, and reimagine it until it becomes a personal signature. Tas Cru belongs to this latter category—that of the dedicated craftsman for whom every song must convey a specific intent, a mood, and a story. With seven albums released over twelve years, a standout instrumental single in 2025 titled "Déjà Blu," and his new record, ‘Might Give Out “released this July, this Central New York native continues to carve out a unique path on the contemporary blues and roots music landscape.
Tas Cru is a versatile musician—performing with a six-piece band, his acoustic duo: Eclipse, or sometimes solo on acoustic, electric, resonator, or cigar-box guitars, and adding a touch of harmonica for good measure. Above all, he is a songwriter. With over 150 original songs to his credit, he holds a firm conviction: he refuses to let lyrics serve merely as a vehicle to get the listener to the guitar solo. It is a stance that perfectly encapsulates the man himself. Praise for him abounds. Bruce Iglauer, head of Alligator Records, calls him as a true songwriter. Downbeat magazine describes him as a unique artist, capable of crafting magical hooks through fresh melodies and finely honed lyrics. Tas Cru has never sought to emulate anyone else; he moves forward with his own words, stories, and humor—sometimes tender, often biting. He possesses the rare ability to write songs that feel familiar from the very first listen, as if they had always existed. That is where his strength lies: in songwriting that appears simple yet is subtle, precise, and never mundane. You can hear the man who has spent his life playing everywhere—in every kind of lineup and before every type of audience. He is a musician who understands what a song wants, what it can offer, and what lies within it that needs to be held in check. Tas Cru is not a "guitar hero"; he plays the guitar like the storyteller he is. His riffs are phrases, his solos are asides, and his arrangements are dialogues between instruments.
As the founder of the Tas Cru Annual Rum Boogie Jam (2008–2023) at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, he has left his mark on the blues scene through both his dedication and his relentless touring across the United States, Europe, and Canada., Tas Cru is endorsed by Delaney Guitars and is represented by Anne Bello Productions (USA & Canada:) publishing & booking, Guitar One Records: media promotion, and Martin Scheschonka Europe): booking & tour management.
“Tas put on a great performance.l He really got the crowd on their feet! They loved him! Tas Cru is a true professional and a pleasure to work with. I look forward to his return to the Boogie. ” - Brad Benton
